C2B Cycling Fundraiser: Carlisle to Berwick-upon-Tweed

Last year a group of friends headed up by one of our Trustees, Mark Mattinson, cycled 160 miles from Whitehaven to Whitley Bay, raising around £4,800 for the Future of Taru.

This July, Mark and a group of friends, including 3 of last year’s team and also joined by his younger brother, are heading out on the road again to raise further funds for the Future of Taru. From the 8th to 10th of July they will be biking around 190 miles from Carlisle to Berwick upon Tweed, via Annan on the Scottish West coast and Edinburgh on the Scottish East coast.

Last year’s fundraising assisted with the construction of our secondary school, and with this year’s funds we hope to be able to upgrade the school’s solar power panels, improving their sustainability and reducing their long term energy costs, along with converting a room at the secondary school into a dormitory as many of the children are orphans. You can hear more about how we utilised the funds raised last year in the below video from our charity founder Paul:

Mark and his friends are not professional cyclists! But they are going to complete the route and hope to raise some significant funds towards our incredible cause.

So if you are able to donate a few pounds towards our fantastic charity, hopefully we can help transform the futures of the children who are the future of Taru.

100% of monies donated will go directly into our charity. Any money the lads are spending on the cycling route is coming out of their own personal savings, including all of their transport costs, accommodation, food and drink, spare inner tubes and blister plasters!

Thank you on behalf of our team of cycling fundraisers, and all of the teachers and pupils at the Future of Taru; hopefully we can all help them build a bigger and brighter future.

Future of Taru is a non-profit, registered charity, who provide a school, top quality education and food, at realistic and affordable prices, to support the people of Taru, and continue to identify children who are in need of sponsorship.

Use the link to below to sponsor our cyclists. Alternatively, text 20CYCLE to 70085 to sponsor £20.

(Texts will cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message.)

The 2022 C2B route will see them cycle 180 miles and over a fair few hills as they head across Scotland from West to East.
